In the first part of this series, I wrote how you can leverage the CrossFit Open to build community and camaraderie in your gym. In today’s post, I’m going to share with you a few more things you can do to enhance that experience.
CrossFit Open Series Website
This is catch all page for all things Open at your gym. Below is the content of that page.
Dress code/themes for the event that week. This allows the teams to gather around and idea and have a lot of fun. It also makes for some good pictures and an all around good time.
Open Prep Post and Videos
We design a post each week that highlights the Announcement, Scaling and Standards, Preparation and Strategy and heat assignments. We grab the header image from the CrossFit Games Facebook page and use that as our featured image. We also link to the CrossFit HQ YouTube page for the video standards and preparation.
As part of our scoring, each team is responsible for completing the weekly challenges. These challenges are a lot of fun. This year we decided to let our ambassadors announce the challenges to the teams and it’s been really well received.
Relive the night! This blog post recaps the evening with a coaches perspective, photos, video showcase of the weekly challenge, leaderboard, and a CTA to get started at your gym.
This section showcases our sponsors according to our sponsorship agreement. Visitors to our website are able to quickly get more information about those people who have supported our event.
We also include a link to the leaderboard, unable to attend form, athlete rosters, and a section that showcases our other blogs about the Open. Your social media accounts should drive traffic back to this website. All of our event photos are watermarked and include a link to our getting started page. We also tag each photo with our members.
One Last Thing
I’m opening up my google drive that we share with our coaches to keep all our stuff organized. In this folder, you’ll see:
- Intramural Overview
- Opening Night Timeline/Agenda
- Check-in Sheet
- Communication Plan
- Draft Board
- Editorial Calendar
- Email Copy for Sponsors
- Leaderboard/Scoring Sheet
- Official Sponsor List
- Heat Assignmenets
- Sponsorship Packets
- And a ton more.
I hope all of this helps with your planning!
