As affiliate owners, it seems like our to-do list is never ending. We want to add more programs, develop staff, grow our business, inspire others and change people’s lives. It’s easy to feel overwhelmed. One item on my to-do list was to develop an ambassador program made up of a wide variety of members from different class times and different points in their CrossFit journey. The goal of the group was to provide feedback on our programs, coaching, test new products/services, help us plan events and so much more.
Designing and starting a program like this can be a big task, but like most things in life, it’s probably been done before. So I started researching and found a variety of information. I spoke with one of my former athletes about the program they were running at their new gym and how they got started. They then shared with me the resource that kick-started our ambassador program.

CrossFit COMO is an amazing community people accomplishing extraordinary achievements every day. These individuals have been selected as the Ambassadors of the gym. They embodied everything we strive for at CrossFit COMO and are here to help welcome new individuals into the gym, organize community events, give feedback on programs and offerings and help us make an impact into the lives of everyone who steps into our gym.
We began our program by sending out an email and posting in our private facebook group asking for people to apply. They were sent to this link to learn more about the program, minimum requirements, expectations and benefits of being an ambassador. After about a week, I reviewed all the applications and made selections. Designating one of the ambassadors as leader.
Prior to selecting the applicants, I appointed on of our members as the chair so that we could have someone spearhead the goals and initiatives of the group.
Once we went through the applications, we announced the committee in our private facebook group.
From there, we sent out an email to the committee to kickoff our first meeting. You can read the email here. A few days later, we hosted the ambassadors at our house for dinner and our kickoff meeting. Needless to say, it was a blast.
The first step after that was to get our ambassador profiles done for the website, so I sent out a list of questions and we scheduled a photo shoot. We also teased this out to our athletes.
Finally, we put the profiles up on our website and got a lot of views. Check out their profiles here.
The Ambassador program has made a huge impact on our gym. They helped us plan our Christmas party, pick out a new clothing line/t-shirts, helped with our bootcamp program enrollment days, provided insight to programming feedback and specialty programs and helped us plan the intramural open. The amount of work they’ve put into the gym is extremely hard to measure, but the value they provide is immense.
